Theory 1 - HW for Friday 2/16

Choose one of the following major keys (Bb, D, Eb, A). Compose a melody/pitch pattern using the following criteria:

• “No rhythm” - tune is all whole notes
• Length: 10-16 notes
• First note is DO
• Last two notes are RE-DO
• You can sing it (you may be called on to do so)
• Mostly stepwise
• Only uses diatonic notes (no accidentals/notes outside the key)
• No notes immediately repeated (you may return to a note after intervening notes)

We will call the tune a “Cantus Firmus” (abbreviated CF, translates to “fixed song”). We will use your CFs as an introduction to species counterpoint, our next topic.
